A How- To guide to Behavior Specific Praise from a BCBA!
Children LOVE attention! This is why we should give more attention to the behaviors we like and want to see happening more often!
Try to catch your child being good as often as you can and reinforce that good behavior using Behavior Specific Praise.
Behavior Specific praise are statements that describe a desired behavior in a specific, observable & positive way AKA clearly stating what you like about your child's behavior.
Behavior Specific Praise helps to increase confidence, enrich language & reinforce positive social & academic skills. By consistently acknowledging appropriate behaviors, you'll increase the likelihood that your child will demonstrate the same behaviors
in the future.
Remember: Praise is most effective when it is given 4X more often than a corrective statement! Praise variety is also importantand more effective! BSP is most effective when it's sincere and delivered immediately!
